New museum?

It seems Elisabeth Beresford's home on Alderney may be turned into an official Wombles museum, according to a press report.  The island only has about 2,000 inhabitants and the late author's home in St Anne's is well known for its display of Wombles in the window.  A museum's a great idea, not just to keep the Wombles in the public eye, but also to promote Alderney itself - a proud postage stamp of an island which I thoroughly enjoyed visiting. Let's hope the museum opens soon...

Sing if you're a mug...

So, no Christmas number 1 for the furry friends from Wimbledon - but plenty of publicity and, with the reissued original books getting plenty of media attention, it should be an exciting Womble-tastic year.

My household now has a singing Wombles mug. Yes. Really. You pick it up and the first two lines of The Wombling Song issue forth. If you set things up right, you can get the music playing if you open the door of the cupboard in which you keep the mug...

Happy Wombling in 2012

As we wait for the local services to collect the European rubbish bag mountain from the neighbourhood, this seems like an appropriate time to wish everyone a Happy New Year.  If only the Wombles were at the Olympics... playing the national anthems or taking part in the sports, they're versatile...
