Objects and images

I've just been reading an academic article about the origins of the Vespa and Lambretta scooters, and their significance as objects of desire, symbols of female emancipation etc. Wonder what marks I could get by writing 4,000 words on the cultural symbolism of a singing Womble...?

Ready for Rumba

I've written a piece about my stay on the Orinoco for Papagaio, the magazine of Journey Latin America, who organised the trip. 'Papagaio' is Portuguese for 'parrot', so here's a photo of Rumba, the blue and gold macaw at the Orinoco Delta Lodge. She reminded me of a five-year-old human - bright, destructive, naughty and yet endearing. Human children often play with their food, but they're less likely to drop it on you from a tree...
